This video shows thugs armed with clubs sent to Silverdale Farm by Benjamin Mengi. Benjamin Mengi.
Mengi had sold the lease to the farm to British investors Stewart Middleton and Sarah Hermitage and, having been paid in full demanded the lease back. When the investors refused, Mengi instigated a savage and brutal campaign of violence and intimidation against the investors and their Tanzanian staff in order to drive them from the country.
Staff were threatened with beheadings and cut close to death with a machete attack. Property and crops were wantonly destroyed. The police did nothing to protect the investors and supported Mengi's constant criminality.
The campaign lasted four years and was supported by the police, judiciary and members of the Tanzanian government.
These thugs were part of a campaign of relentless and savage violence and harassment to force the investors from their property.
At least three of the men were armed with clubs and one threatened to use violence against Sarah Hermitage who was on the farm alone.
The thugs were being driven by Mengi's driver in Mengi's red pickup owned registration mark T76 HB. They cut the padlock to the main gate to the farm and terrified the gate keeper.
None of the men had any right to be on the property and they refused to leave.
The Regional Police commander was telephoned and refused to attend the farms or send any officers to assist the investors.
In the video the men are seen to leave, they did not.
They had herded some 100 Masai cattle at the main gate to the farm which they then stampeded along the main drive of the farm and towards the investor who stood in the road whilst speaking on the telephone to the British High Commissioner in Dar es Salaam at the time Philip Parham. The investor told Philip Parham she had to go as she was going to be killed by the cattle.
The particular incident led to the full invasion off the investor's property by Benjamin Mengi.
The police and the Tanzanian government did nothing to protect the British investors or their investment.
The next day, more thugs appeared this time with firearms!!!!
