@nneky100 I agree with you completely on all points. I should have made that clear in my earlier post. I should have also noted that while Wiki is roughly as accurate as E.B. on scientific subjects, both are barely "B" students. To Wikipedia's credit, the site does have an entry on its own reliability.
The same people who take Wiki as "the word of God", are the same ones who believe everything that comes from popular media.

@kaysandesses My argument isn't that Wikipedia has no truths, my argument is that it isn't reliable. referencing wikipedia takes away the credibility from any argument. I think to some extent, I am blowing this way out of proportion...I guess it would be fine referring to wikipedia on youtube...what disturbs me is that some folks will take it as the word of God.

@nneky100 It's interesting that the journal Nature found Wikipedia to be as accurate as Enclopedia Brittanica. The real utility for finding facts through Wikipedia comes from the more reliable sources that are frequently referenced in the Wiki article. Handy little research tool there.
