Tornado Warning!

On Aug 24, 2007, it was a hot summer day! Tornados to the west of us in the neighboring counties. Just a matter of time before the sirens sounded. This is the same storm that caused major damage in the Fenton, MI area, as well as creating a 4 hour rain delay at Comerica Park. The game started at 11pm, and due to extra innings was completed at 3:45am.

Here is the actual warning statement from the national weather service:

Issued at: 5:56 PM EDT 8/24/07, expires at: 6:45 PM EDT 8/24/07

The NWS in detroit/pontiac has issued a

tornado warning for: oakland county in southeast michigan
Until 645 pm edt
At 553 pm edt, national weather service doppler radar indicated a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado near seven lakes, or about 14 miles south of flint, moving east at 40 mph.
The tornado will be near, holly state recreation area and 6 miles north of davisburg by 605 pm edt, ortonville by 610 pm edt, oxford, 7 miles north of lake orion and 8 miles north of bald mountain state recreation area by 625 pm edt,
When a tornado warning is issued based on doppler radar, it means that strong rotation has been detected in the storm. A tornado may already be on the ground, or is expected to develop shortly.
If you are in the path of a tornado, the safest place in a home or business is an interior room on the lowest floor possible. Avoid windows.
