Jamie is an adorable youngster who was relinquished to Cairn Rescue USA, along with 11 other Cairns. And what a tough start in life little Jamie had. Prior to coming into our adoption program he was living in a rabbit cage and destined for a life as a breeding stud. Now he is learning what it means to be part of a real family and to be treated as a loving family member, not "livestock".
Having come from such humble beginnings, Jamie is remarkably friendly and confident. Though he still jumps at new sounds and is cautious with unfamiliar people, he has is growing more and more self-assured every day. His foster mom reports that he is very energetic, playful, mischievous, smart and happy. Has has a great appetite and while not yet 100% housebroken, he is definitely "getting it" and when taken out after eating, playing or sleeping, he quickly "does his business". He crates well for short periods of time.
Jamies loves to play and drag around his many toys. Old socks, squeaky toys and rawhide chewies are are fair game! Looking for a "tug o' war" buddy? Then Jamie is your man.
Jamie's foster mom reports that after just a few days in her home, Jamie found voice and he now growls and barks when the doorbell rings. He is very free with his affections and loves to cuddle and give kisses. A rambunctious and inquisitive young boy, he delights in exploring his environment, both indoors and outside, yet is happy to lay down and snooze when the opportunity (or a warm lap) presents itself.
Jamie is quite the comedian and upon discovering his foster mom's recycle bin, he quickly devised a way to jump inside, steal papers and engage himself in a game of "shredding". His foster mom is teaching him the sit, down, and lie down commands and he's proving to be a very fast learner. Of course, being a Cairn Terrier he certainly has a mind of his own.
Jamie embodies all the charming and challenging characteristic of the Cairn breed: he has great looks, smarts and the ability and willingness to learn. He will be a wonderful addition to a terrier-experienced family that can make the commitment of time, structure, training and love; all of which are key ingredients to the development of a healthy and happy adult Cairn. A fenced yard is a must as is a home where there is an adult presence for the majority of the day. Another dog for companionship would be a plus. Families with children under the age of 7 cannot be considered.
