a friend of mine from Puerto Rico (I'm a Texan) had his wife make these and got me hooked on them as well as some other excellent popular PR foods.

Thanks for sharing, I just met a guy that is Dominican, I want to make this for him

I mash mine with my hands, but there's no wrong way. Puerto Ricans typically smash them with our hands or use a tostonera at most.

I eat my tostones like chips because when theyre really crispy they taste almost like potato chips.. I love them especially when I eat them with arroz con gandules.

hmmmmmmm yummy
It is not exactly like this. The most important for preparing an original tostones is that you are supposed to smash the platano with your hands. This gives the real shape of the tostones. The way you smash 'em it is not right, because you cannot feel how strong are you doin' it.

I appreciate your comment, but this is how my Dominican family makes them, they smash them with el pilón. :)

Bueno, siempre digo "De carne, no, pero de corazón sí". Aunque no naciera allí, me considero dominicano porque me crié en San Juan de la Maguana con una familia dominicana.
