Back in the day when bands like this were awesome. And even then zao went shite aswell. A tragedy...
-
@knowsbeans Oops, forgot to add the sentence where I actually answer the question - I think AILD count as a 'Christian band' for those reasons.
-
@knowsbeans I don't really listen to AILD, but a cursory reading of their lyrics has them discussing explicitly Christian themes in a manner akin to, say, sermonizing (eg. 'despite their betrayal, you died for me'). I've never really been a fan of that style, though - I find most religious moralization in music to be a little prosaic. Zao, for me, is doing that sort of thing correctly - there's a religious message but it's not quite as conspicuous as like 'bow down and worship him'.
-
@robbyv109 Shouldn't your faith be strong enough to be able to look past what you think the message is saying and just appreciate it for being good music? No disrespect, I just wonder if that is an option for you.

@TheHideousRevelation Out of curiousity, where do you think As I Lay Dying falls under?
-
@devianaut yeah but most of them bands are fuckin shit man, surz
-
@1991Dgray I disagree With that, as a devout christian, secular music is not good for my walk with god. I listen to the older Zao but not the newer Zao for that simple reason. Sure, From a worldy perspective it's all good music, but I beg to disagree.

@foreverxcursed a ton of bands wouldn't exist without zao! i love these guys :)

This was masterful metal.
@OfficialAtramental There's a distinction between 'Christian band' and 'band of guys who are Christians'. Dream Theater are all Christians, but they are not a 'Christian band'. Tom Araya of Slayer is Christian, but obviously Slayer aren't a Christian band. There are likely 'Christian bands' wherein not all the members are actually Christian, too. :P
