Vilas had arrived six weeks before the 1978 Australian Open began so he could acclimatise himself to the court surface and conditions. Vilas practised up to seven hours a day with his coach Ion Tiriac in preparation for the event. It paid off as he took the title beating John Marks in the final in four sets.

beautiful images of a fashinating tennis. I can't understand why here the ball is so clearly visible, and in most others videos you can only guess where it is.

Up until 2000, all players would serve and volley on grass. Even "claycourters" would attack. Now nobody comes forward on any service. It is hard to watch a lot of matches now, because every match is all baseline all the time. This is great to watch.

wonder why Guillermo didn't shake the ump's hand @ end of the match ?
some overrules from the chair that he didn't agree with, or what ?
