  • I'm glad you posted that comment. The CDC defines Autism as an "intellectual disabilty". Some organizations call it a "developmental" or even a "learning" disability, but I dont think that either of these terms are accurate. It is still unclear whether people are born with Autism or whether or not it is a result of their environment, and "developmental" implies that Autism is only environmental. In contrast, "intellectual" diabilities can be genetic, environmental, or a combination of both.

  • A developmental disability (or delay) is a difference in development. I don't see how that could be limited to environment. I have 2 DD sons. One has Down Syndrome, the other Autism. "Intellectual disability" kinda irks me as a term, but I suppose I could reconcile that as a "intellectual difference". Both of my kids are smart, but an IQ test wouldn't show it.
