I'm not a ham, but I do own a scanner, and I frequently listen to these 2-3 hams who often send SSTV audio tones over the air.
If I were to simply run those tones from the headphone port on my scanner to the line-in port on my computer's video card, would I be able to receive the images? I have ran test audio files locally on my computer and the images came up perfectly.
witch hardware do you use?

Yeah, if you hook up the headphone port on your radio to your PC's line-in/mic port, you can receive images.
