@sprucetree49 Okay so first of all you're talking about the political spectrum as if it's one-dimensional. Which leads to crazy assertions like "left is authoritarian" which is a non sequitur. And the correlation is much stronger on the right, anyway. Secondly he's a libertarian socialist (libertarian as in the Enlightenment version, not the US version), which is not just relatively, but unequivocally anti-authoritarian. You don't know Chomsky's views very well, I'm guessing.

I've never seen video or writing of Chomsky calling himself a 'leftist'.
-
@hamnose THAT should be the description.
-
@444damn lol no, thats michael albert
-
is he being interview by art garfunkel?
-
Would it really hurt to provide just a little more context?
Like the question the guy asked in the first place?
Im all for Chomsky and Im very critical of postmodernism and the likes but this is just dumb.

Though Chomsky is a leftist he's relatively anti-authoritarian. He's not the sort who would defend Stalin. But English departments get these flamboyant characters who try to be outrageous and one form that takes is to emulate the extremism and party-line mentality of old-time Communists. Stifling dissent is hip and macho in their eyes, and the poor working slob pays their salaries.

Well put; I noticed how bogus Post Modernist theory is as an art student... we had to read & analyse nonsense & if I ever said, "hold on: this is rambling nonsense & unjustified speculation" the professor would scold me & urge me to be more 'open minded' or just say plainly she didn't care what I thought. In the biology department it was very different though; in the sciences they have their stuff together... I got to experience these different worlds on a single campus!

I love how opponents of women's movements try to cite people like Noam Chomsky to appear credible, by whittling an entire segment down to a 1 minute snippet of a specific comment to base their entire worldview on.
Shouldn't the title be: "I clipped 1 random fucking minute of an interview which is available on Youtube in it's entirety and I didn't understand a fucking word 'cause I thought of giving this clip the title: "Chomsky criticizes postmodern feminism & marxism". " Nothing to see here people, move along.
