new camera seems to have poor audio - the speaker sounds "ok" for what it is and I was just guessing at nice size of ~8" wide by 10.75" tall.. To some extent, the aperture flare controls the tone and various resonances of the front chamber. Some advanced Karlson builders use several sets of wings: radial arc, Exponential curve, tractrix and hybrid in order to achieve the best sound and loading as the math involved would be complex.

  • I had a friend back in the 60's who's dad had a mono hi-fi with a big Karlson speaker that sounded pretty good. I bought an 8" version and put in a Lafayette full range and it sounded like crap. Yours sounds much better. Are they still in business? Those wings in the front must introduce a lot of hollow coloration.

  • @49kasey - if things are done right then a K-coupler will sound pretty darn good. Karlson's K8 was kinda rough - especially if a dull on the top speaker was loaded. John Karlson passed away in 1973. The art of building new K-couplers is somewhat alive. Best, Freddy
