Course Description
Environment 185A: Sustainable Living is a sub-division of the Education for Sustainable Living Program (ESLP). ESLP is a student designed, student developed, and student facilitated program offered through the Institute of the Environment. The Speaker Series brings guest speakers from UCLA and across the country to speak on specialized subjects including food systems, green business, organic gardens, sustainable living, the green economy, environmental justice and transportation. Speakers range from authors, professors, community activists, environmentalists, for and non-profit business representatives, and government officials.

Guest Speaker:
Michael B. Lehrer, FAIA founded his Silverlake‐based practice, Lehrer Architects LA in 1985. The firms work consists of institutional, commercial, residential, industrial, and urban design projects. Lehrer Architects LA has won over major 50 design awards since 1996, including numerous honor awards from the national, state, and local chapters of The American Institute of Architects. The recently completed Water Life
Museums in Hemet are the first LEED™ Platinum museums in the world. Michael is President of Homeless Health Care of Los Angeles. He was appointed to Mayor Villaraigosas Design Advisory Panel in 2009. Michael was educated at Berkeley and Harvard after attending LAUSD public schools. He is married to Mia Lehrer, FASLA of Mia Lehrer Associates Landscape Architecture.
