Is Akira the Best Looking Anime?

Akira has been called the best looking anime of all time by many popular anime enthusiasts, im arguing not that Akira looks bad but that it does not deserve the #1 spot compared to the visual quality of today's anime.

I don't know what there is to discuss here. You're comparing handcrafted, exquisitely detailed and animated Akira to a bunch of weekly anime series where practically every other shot is a still of someone's face? Maybe if you compared it to one of Miyazaki's better films we could have something to debate. In terms of quality just go to 2:14. That's six whole seconds of Lil's inert face. Yes, manga like Death Note can have an aesthetic that YOU prefer, but that is a preference, not quality.

Nothing beats Akira's stunning visuals in my book. A lot of the newer anime/manga movies and series lacks the detail, depth and organic feel that Akira has, imo. There is Steamboy though, which has some really impressive visuals as well, but I know that some of it are CGI. Personally I prefer older movies from before computers were used for everything.

I suggest to this duo they issue a public apology for their opining and, instead, compare Akira to movies like Redline, Summer Wars, Paprika, etc.. BTW, you chose shit series to compare. How about The Tatami Galaxy, Samurai Champloo, or Betterman? Elfen Lied reveals your weeaboo tastes and Ergo Proxy was pretentious bs IMO, you might as well have included other anime with cat ears or from MTV. Ameridiots

To be honest. Akira's animation is better. However I think what he's getting at might be that the anime's he's showing have a certain atmosphere about them, while the animation itself is inferior I don't think anyone can deny that DeathNote's animation has a certain mystic tone to it, and I think that may be why he prefers the animation, however I that is ultimately preference, not animation quality.
