It's a religious festival like no other, featuring skimpy bikinis and non-stop drinking and dancing. But for black Brazilians, the festival of Yemanja is as much about spirituality as partying.

"Today the party is for Yemanja, Queen of the Ocean", explains Carlinhos Brown. Candomble, the worship of African Gods, is at the centre of a revival of Afro-Brazilian culture. It aims at recognising the contribution slaves made to modern Brazil and restoring black pride in a city where most black people live in abject poverty.

  • Why do not video of white Brazilians?

  • Brazil is always labeled as a country of black people who only know just samba and soccer, but most of the population is white, about 53% (more than 100 million people), which places Brazil as the third country with more white in the world behind only the United States and Russia.

the reality of race and ethnicity in Brazil is white. We have to accept it.

Raul, os estrangeiros veem/ admiram coisas que nós brasileiros rejeitamos há muitas décadas... De fato existem uma concetração muito grande de imigrantes europeus no Brasil, mas ele também é o país(fora da África) com mais negros do mundo .
