Mesa Boogie Mark IV in hardwood and wicker with a matching EVM12L loaded Thiele cab. This 12" will hang with a 4 12". This demo was done at 4 in the morning and the level was almost as low as the amp will go without being too quiet. The guitar runs into a crybaby and then a gcx switcher. The gcx controls the channel switching and brings in a dbx compressor for clean and blues sounds and a bbpreamp before the compressor and a keeley ts9 after the comp. The loop is always activated and I have a gmajor in it. The g major sounds great and I haven't had a bit of trouble with it yet. The graphic EQ is also ALWAYS on and I compensate on each channel to make them all sound good.I have only had this setup for a month and it was a complete departure from my guitar - pedal - single channel amp philosophy but this amp kicks ASS.

My settings are -
tweed power
harmonics
simulclass
triode
lead input pulled
rth 2 master pulled
classic V with the treble side slightly lower...
lead channel - no pedals - guitar and amp
gain - 8,treble - 9.5,bass - 1.5,mid-4
drive - 8, presence - 5

The speaker cabinet makes the biggest difference in sound with any amp.

I didn't ask anyone how to set this amp up, just READ the manual and turn the knobs within the manuals rules till the amp sounds great.

I'm sorry for breaking my no camrea mic rule, but I think that you can forgive me.

  • Mark iv A or B?

  • Version B

  • Nice video... by the way I've got a question... Which of these 2 amps are the best: Mesa BoogieMark IV or Road King... What should I have first... I'm in a band, I wanna play live, record with it and have the same sound of Metallica, Dream Theater, Megadeth, Disturbed, Bullet For My Valentine, Vai and finally Satriani lol XD

In conclusion, which is best for my type of music?

  • Try them both...the mark 4 has more sonic versatility but it needs pedals and out board gear to get to there but the roadking or any recto has a more aggressive sound if you want that. The mark 4 has plenty of brutality but will cover the satch and vai and rock better so I own it.

  • No, they are just different. There are people who love both and pros who swear by both. I prefer and own the Mark 4 but they both have their problems as any amp does.

  • @kevenharbour the mark iv sound better than the recto or roadking + the sound is more articulated just a better amp for lead and soloing + more sonic possibilty with all the switch and the pull knob just an incredible amp the sound of pretrucci at his best

  • Rhythm 2 sounds pretty badass to me too.

  • Were you using either of the overdrive pedals when you demo'd the Lead channel?

I'm just wondering if there's enough gain on channel 3 for fluid/legato solo stuff...(without any pedals in front of the amp)

  • I just.....

  • Nice setup and tones!

  • what's the best mesa for a pink floyd or a led zeppelin kind of style?Thx in advance

  • @kevenharbour If you can afford the Mark V i would go with that. It can get the mark IV and Mark IIC+ tones as it has switches specifically geared to that sound as well as an extreme setting to get an even more over the top tone. It seems like the swiss army knife of great amps, wish i can get that but, i dont feel like blowing close to 2 grand so i just compromised and spent half that on a mark IV. So far its the best amp ive ever owned as it gives me an exact metallica tone

  • @Gyro911 Thanks but it was an old comment (10 months lol XD) but thanks i didnt know the difference between the rectifier and the road king... But what should I buy the Mark IV or V? Mark V is maybe more versatile because you have all Marks series and other new sound but it doesnt have a midi jack, input or output (i dont know if its the right term for that)

  • @TheDarkMaster85 you dont need boost pedal with the mark IV. The graphic EQ does that much better then any shitty tube screamer
