I had a new Bradford White installed just 3 months ago yesterday with this
new Icon gas valve. Sometime overnight the pilot went out and it won't re-light.
It's never gone out before. Maybe I just got a bad one.

Are you trying to make it easier for the plumbers who don't know what they are doing? Or easier for the homeowner? If you can't figure any water heater out without the lights...bad. As far as the dry well idea...ever taken an old one out? Crap all over it...new one, no crap insulating temp. Now? Your eng. dropped the ball trying to make it idiot proof.
