The Chameleon Guitar -- so named for its ability to mimic different instruments -- is an electric guitar whose body has a separate central section that is removable. This inserted section, the soundboard, can be switched with one made of a different kind of wood, or with a different structural support system, or with one made of a different material altogether. Then, the sound generated by the electronic pickups on that board can be manipulated by a computer to produce the effect of a different size or shape of the resonating chamber.

  • It sounds alright but from the sounds of it because its missing the holistic approach to guitar making that most great guitar luthiers use its lost its resonance somewhere along the way, Its sounds dead and quiet. Whilst the tone is quite pleasant the rest of the characteristics you get from a full wood bodied acoustic are completely removed.

  • yeah, this may not look like much, but it's the IDEA that is revolutionary. The concept that they're vying for is still being modified. What that is isn't the final product, just a concept of it, if you will.

  • This guitar is both aesthetically displeasing, and sonically dead sounding. I love digital guitar stuff, and I perked up when I heard the concept...but the execution here isn't musical at all, unfortunately.

  • Is nice but I actually don't understand what would be the difference between this and a Roland Virtual Guitar (VG8,88,99)

  • not so nice the sound in my opinion..still at the beginnin'

  • way nice although the sound does not impress me much!

Are MIT folks sure to get out the same sound an acoustic would? Let's wait until it gets commercialized so everyday guitarists like me will be able to put their hands on it.

  • wow!

  • Last year i build a bass with the same concept but different elettronic application.

I'm happy for this develop ..that means is a good idea.
