The only way to safely run VOA on a car with a MAF is to have some type of engine management that lets the engine account for the lost air. Like a Cobb Accessport.

@MrFannybaas - Yes, needs to be recirculated. Otherwise MAF tells engine to dump fuel in like a mofo and you end up running rich as shit, which will lead to idle probs and backfiring, stalling etc. Evos must use recirc's or at least a split set, but to get the best out of it, use fully recirc. Just make the PSST sound with your mouth instead :-p

use a heat wrap shield

I fitted A TURBOSMART to my evo 8 and the car runs like a bag of shit and stinks. do they have to be recirculating think its messing up the maff. Any IDEAS??

i have this same bov (05 evo 8) and i think it froze shut cause of cold weather or it's just shot entirely. i installed a new hks fmic w/complete intercooler piping so would that have something to do with it? i used to get that loud swoosh sound, but now it feels like something is wrong. i've tightened and loosened the spring many times. i hope it's not seized shut cause i only had in for like 5 months now. any help???

Crap got in it.
Just clean and lube it and it will be fine.
well nowadays u can get 400 hp with just sneezing on the car..lol so easy, especially for evos am i wrong? and does the hks ssqv do for any car? i have a starlet gt its running about 0.8 bar, what do u think?

For a standard evo you'll need to throw a couple of grand at it to get it to 400bhp, but in modding terms thats nothing.
The HKS is purely a vent to atmosphere BOV so will be better when running on full boost while a dual port bov helps the turbo spool up a little quicker and makes the car drive a little smoother.
I'm no expert on starlet GT's so I really can't comment.

Cheers dude, but I have to say that if your thinking of getting one of these.... DON'T.
After 8 months it now has to be replaced, it has been a little stikcy for a month or so and yesterday it finally jammed fully closed.
It took full boost at 7k rpm to open it again.

After a chat with some other owners today it seems that it might just be water dripping through the bonnet vent thats been seizing it.
I'm still going to change it to an HKS SSQV tho as this doesn't sit under the vent.
I might also have a few more little mods done at the same time which hopefully take it up to 400bhp
