Frederic Chopin - Prelude in D Minor, Op. 28 No. 24

This is a video from my student recital in December 2009. I've played approximately one-third of Chopin's 24 preludes now, and I'm not sure if I'll get around to playing them all, but I played three for this recital.

This is Prelude number 24, Allegro Appassionato, in D Minor. I absolutely love this piece...it's one of my favorite pieces of all time. It suggests turmoil and storminess, but it's not as angry, panicked, or agitated as many of the other preludes. It's full of passion, and I just feel like it's all about a love bursting at the seams. It really feels to me like a feverish love song or serenade.
And at the same time, it happens to be one of the hardest preludes in the set. The left-hand jumps are always exhausting, the runs and octaves are tricky, and the thirds run is just nasty (yeah I know I totally butchered it...I can't ever seem to get a consistent good run on it.)

Actually, because I love the piece so much, I'm really disappointed whenever one of my performances on it doesn't turn out to be one of the best I can possibly give. The memory lapse I had here just won't get out of my mind. :( Otherwise I think this was pretty fine, but I REALLY wish that lapse wasn't there!

A fevered love, huh? This makes me think of one of those murder mysteries. I can totally see this as a song in the end of a mystery, under the clock tower, the detective revealing the murderer. Well played!
