Neil Finn is an amazing poet. His lyrics are incredible linguistic marvels that others just stumble around over.
-
Brilliant Lyrics:
"...and he can't stand Beelzebub, cause he looks so good in black."
Another Crowded House gem.

Neil is one of the best lyricists ever. Witty song, lovely melody. A true songsmith. Bravo Mr. Finn!

@Asmodera Awesome observation! Never realized that
-
@teacherlady66 That is exactly why I love him so much. Too many songs today have generic lyrics. Neil's lyrics force you to listen and to think. We need more artists like him.

@SelmanAndyyy175 It's a metaphor, but it's also a parody of traditional biblical views of God, and the contradictions/conflicts found in any relationships - going to the extreme - kind-of like saying "Oh s*** I don't know! But there goes God..." In other words "I don't know, and the whole 'God' thing makes no sense either!'" And being a brilliant lyric, there will be more meanings and ways to interpret it than this - this is just one.

@Asmodera Lol!

Point is there but it's hidden ;) Sausage dog backwards sounds like god Jesus.

Woodface is a great album, one of those great early 90s 'polished hippy' albums (think Out of Time or Pocketful of Kryptonite too) that defined their band. There is a subtle mystery and honest poignancy to it where it never bluntly hits you over the head with it. It's has a relaxed, sophisticated, quirky beauty to it that maybe speaks of a New Zealand attitude. There goes god, with its interesting idea and that beautiful harmonica is a highlight.

God can't stand Satan because of how good he looks. I love this song, there is so much truth in it.

I don't understand, could you please explain? I'm sorry, I am 14 years old, and I don't know much about this yet.
