They had a general procedure equivalent to solving quadratic equations, although they recognized only one root and that had to be positive. In effect, they had the quadratic formula. They also dealt with the equivalent of systems of two equations in two unknowns. They considered some problems involving more than two unknowns and a few equivalent to solving equations of higher degree."

@museblock Arabs invented modern algebra. Bablyonians didn't have algebra, they had arithmetic which is just basic maths - algebra is just another subset of maths.

@adoubled321 Muslims didn't invent algebra. They may have named it and expanded their understanding. But mathematics goes back as far as Babylon. All nations stand on the backs of other nations or cultures to advance themselves. Nothing truly belongs to just any one nation. That said, NASA wasn't started so Obama could play matchmaker in the middle east. Its purpose was science not diplomacy.

What does NASA have to do with these requests! They are supposed to be about space exploration! Looks like NASA has been grounded! Good news I do not have to be a pilot to apply for work at NASA. If I were a Muslim I would rush my application into NASA. Since NASA has been grounded they cannot crash airplanes into buildings! Could this be the reason for their change of mission? Totally confused? James Sasse.

Does Limbaugh know where the word algebra came from? If the "Muslims" didnt come up with such a thing, we would not be in space today. This guys genuinely believe that americans invented everything. Sorry Limbaugh but america is anything but genuin, Its talking everything from the rest of the world and made it, its own. Even the English language.
