Space Mountain's Final Day of Operation

Space Mountain closed on April 18th, 2009 for a seven month refurbishment and I was there to ride it one last time in its current state.

I don't know how they are going to get done with a 7 month refurb they have to replace the whole track it takes time and all the lift effect changes and queue it took disneyland 2 in a half years to reopen imagine disneyworld plus they have 2 tracks which might take longer.

I don't think it's going to be as extensive because WDW management doesn't want it closed that long. I actually went to DL twice while Space was closed and witnessed very upset guests. Imagine how much more upset WDW's less frequent guests will be. I heard they are only doing a partial track replacement, and the loading area will get enclosed so the view into the mountain is blocked off. That's basically it, though I hope we get on-board audio.

They need to do more like disneyland who cares if the guests get mad it will pay off if they do a major one like disneyland. Then all the guests that were mad will be happy because it will be a lot better

Yeah, I agree. After all, WDW didn't completely refurbish their Pirates like Disneyland did, and the results were less than stellar. WDW did do the Haunted Mansion refurb correctly and it shows.

i hated not going on it in the week of sept. 16 threw 23 or so... DARN REFERBISHMENT! i was at disney's boardwalk (we always go there) n looking on utube for views on space mountain cuz i refuzed to ride it the million times we went n then my coatser gut finally gave up n now i wanted to ride it.... we r going in jan. or feb of 2010 yay!! i go like 3 times a year!

It has been confirmed that there will be new ceilings and new track, but only to replace the old track. It wont be a new coaster design.

they are getting an on ride sound system, enclosed station, new effects during the ride, and a possibility of getting a new paint job on the new cars. They are also getting a new Post show and a possible pre-show.

oh guess i misread. anyway, ya never know. sm has been in need of a dl sort of refurb fo a while now. from speculation i've heard the track layout is supposed to remain the same but the track/trains are supposed to be updated (which most likely means they'll buy from vekoma). anyway, that's just speculation and i doubt there is much of any truth to it.

I said that is just what those of us who aren't working on the project actually know. Of course there is going to be more, but, it is very unlikely that there will be a new track or rockets...
