such a big deal is always made of Chet's Gretsch guitars, (which are wonderful machines to be sure) and I understand that tome is as much in the hands as anywhere, but does anyone know what amps he used? his tone is just beautiful.
Porter's apparent downplay of Chet's talent is, of course, "tongue-in-cheek," and so are Chet's comments on this video. However, he was a master on this particular piece. Still, if you have not heard his rendition of "Colonel Bogey" on the classic guitar accompanied by the Boston Pops, you are missing one of the greatest guitar performances. The Boston crowd really enjoyed Chet!
