'i am' is a series of workshops which empowers young people through drama, creative writing and multimedia whilst challenging their fears about difference such as race and sexuality. The process will also enable them to realise their creative potential through expressing themselves with confidence.
'i am' is targeted at years 7-9 in groups of 15 students and will complement drama, media and PSHE programmes within the National Curriculum and provide a means of collaboration with these departments. This is a bespoke project, which can be configured as a one off 2 hour session or a series of workshops over six weeks for instance, if a performance presentation is required as a final outcome.
The workshop outcomes will enhance:
• interpersonal skills,
• vocal and written communication skills,
• team and independent working skills,
• listening
• and self-confidence through awareness of the body.
'i am' worked with Stoke Newington school which was a great success. the student's worked for 2 days ending with a performance in Stoke Newington's school LGBT spring concert. The process allowed one student to address her homophobic views whilst accepting her Lesbian sister and another student felt comfortable enough to come out.
