@Jmichaelg038 actualy the claim is origins in Middle East and North Africa(where Egypt is). Bearing in mind Middle East is non specific, a United Nations early 70's coined term which did not exist before then. Everyone has their own idea of it, but if you talk about history, linguistic, cultural evidence,it can be said it originated in neither. There is much to learn by all....no ego allowed.

@shirine You've got alot to learn about it's origins as well.

@Ritabellydance You've got alot to learn about the origins of bellydancing and it's meaings. Bellydancing originated from the middle east, not egypt.

@vimorrison I guess she tries to be creative. I prefer Egyptian dancers. the most notorious and famous dancers in the arab world and in the world are the Egyptians. there is aboslutely no discussion about that. lebanese can not compete with Egyptians in Bellydance. Lebanese are great at other things : make up, hair styling and fashion design but bellydance is not something they excel at.
well, if you think that then it s because you count the more obvious, external, superficial - and not theArab soul behind this music and movement which uniquely belongs to this culture. most Russian dancers who have at least some good performances under their belt make Arabs laugh when dancin to the drums coz they re agressive, masculine, without FEELING for the drum. same with Americans, movement-trained, not feeling-learned..

Amani did not invent bellydance. Besides she is also trained in ballet and jazz dance, and learned from dancers in Egypt. Who is copying who? Everybody is copying everybody, thats how you learn, is it not!?
