All of the people questioning why Notre Dame blitzed on this play, blitzing on 4th down is a good idea, the design of the blitz or the execution might have been bad. If Weis called for the defense to play back and soft on this play you would all be criticizing him too.

I am still surprised Notre Dame blitzed on this play. I know they wanted to hurry the throw, but Matt Leinart was especially good at picking up the blitz and finding his receivers. It would have been better to play something safe here, IMO, and take their chances. I don't know if USC could have put enough plays together in such a short amount of time against a heavy zone. Man coverage always yields the potential for a big offensive play.
