@graphicphoenix the live sand actually has beneficial bacteria living within/on the sand/water mix in the package. Buying sand with the bacteria already living in it can help speed up the growth of the populations necessary to assist in the breakdown of ammonia that comes from waste (food breakdown, fish pee and poo). It's not necessary because the "good" bacteria will grow naturally over time. I consider it more of a jump start. Hope this helps answer your question.

if i were u i would get 2 power heads one twards the front and one twards the back on oposite sides so i would get another even if its just rated 4 a nano

@ReptileFreak2000 I agree 100%. Having proper water flow is very important to successfully raise corals. Great suggestion. I will be adding another power head to the system soon. Thanks!
