There were 839 entrants to this years main event. Each paid $10,000 to enter what was the largest poker tournament ever played in a brick and mortar casino at the time. Many entrants, including the overall winner, won their seat in online poker tournaments.

Watch the WSOP that changed them all.

  • Sammy had to fold his deuces, but if he'd been priced in, his set could have knocked out 2 players and Farha would almost certainly have gone on to win.

  • @ajohn99 Yeah. I guess Moneymaker checked and Vahedi checked behind him and it got edited out of the footage. I'm surprised Moneymaker didn't raise with two pairs though.

  • @ajohn99 Proper tournament poker protocol is to check when someone is all in, so that the 2 people or more people that have the all-in pusher covered have better odds of knocking him out, making the entire table more money (in tournament winnings). They probably checked rather quickly, especially since both hands weren't very strong anyway, just hoping that Grey didn't have a hand, and the broadcast probably just skipped the check.

  • Why is there no action on the turn and river when Grey is all in? Shouldn't Moneymaker and Vahedi be allowed to bet into a side pot?

  • chris money maker ate darvin moon

  • @lee0187 of course not moron, once you're in the money you fight for every place. That he paid almost nothing doesn't matter.

Apart from that, calling 85000 when you have a stack of 2.5 million is nothing. You have to play against shortstacks or else you can sit there for hours

  • yeah what could have been. i.e no moneymaker effect, no boom, no ridiculous amount of fish and no hugely popular game we have now. what could have been...

  • you`ve just pointed out that it does make sense......it was just gambling

    He had nothin to lose

$40 satellite into the main event

  • lol Dan Harrington - you folded 9s?

yeah thats a hand you fold in a raised pot preflop

(unless he put fester on a slowplayed AA)

  • because its for such a small percentage of moneymakers overall stack
