Okay, keep the historical content of this tune in mind. It is the 1850's. Certainly there were few "happy darkies", but this was the portrayl used on the Minstrel stage. It was part of the theme for many of the "plantation" songs common in the day. This song was popluar according to its frequency of appearance in the old playbills. If anything, use this as a reflection to see how far we have come from those blind days of racism. Just imagine....this attitude was not considered odd for the time.
