i had a VNS implant about 5 months ago and i cant say that it reduced the amount of seizures but it did cut back of the severity of the seizures. I would have a complex partial for about 10-15 minutes and then have a hung over feeling for the rest of the day, just short of a coma feeling, now i'll have a 8-10 minute seizure and wake up feeling fine. not a major improvement but better than nothing. i do loose conscince (sp) but i dont wake up scared and wondering where i'm at anymore.

My girlfriend was was one of the first in the Chicago area back in 1997 to have a VNS implant. She was also on ALOT of meds for epilepsy. MAXED out on the dose for Lamictal, Dilantin, Gabitrol, and Zonegran 3 TIMES A DAY! She carried that Magnet around with her for the stimulator and would use it when she felt an "Aura" coming on. It didn't stop the seizures, just delay them. She died at the age of 22 in November 2002 from SUDEP. My heart was broken. People need to know the VNS is no miracle.
