A clip from Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg's talk at TEDWomen 2010; edited by Susan Macaulay CIO, http://www.unleashamazingyou.com/index.php. For more with respect to gender imparity, see these links:
and that's what we're supposed to be doing, treating every1 equally, regardless of their, age, sex, ethnic background, nationality or any other labels one can stick ppl with. doing otherwise would be discrimination.
even if there are more women who are in need of more psychological empowerment than most men, treating them differently based on their gender would simply exacerbate the problem of a seperation between the genders, by being terribly one-sided.
look at like this, if one were act as if there are no such things as men and women, only humans, then one would treat any1 in need.
@sn3192 "human beings should be cared about based on their personal needs regardless of their biological gender."
Yes, you are right. However, the pendulum is so far in favour of straight men at the moment that I believe we must actively change the lot of the rest of us who are comparatively disadvantaged in order to achieve parity and equity. Sad but true.
@sn3192 well yes, that's the problem with sweeping generalisations. But the fact of the matter is that women worldwide are disadvantaged compared to men. There is absolutely no disputing it. I'm unable to put a link here, but I will put one in the video description which documents just a few of the imbalances.
furthermore, she'll ONLY tell her female coworkers to believe in themselves and ask for a raise. regardless of the fact they are highly diverse human beings, with different pasts, different genetical predispositions, habits, tastes and the only thing that they truly have in common is they biological gender. they ALL need encouragement? while none of the men do?
human beings should be cared about based on their personal needs regardless of their biological gender.
