  • I looked at your website and saw you did 2 coats of primer and 3 coats of black. Did you use latex primer and paint? If so, what brands? Did you use a clear coat to harden the surface (due to latex remaining "sticky" and easily scuffed).

I was just wondering what brands and procedures you used. How is the finish standing up?

I am building a stand alone control panel this week but am not doing a plexiglass top (only paint) so any help is greatly appreciated!

You can see what paint I used here (take out the spaces):

The finish has stood up great. However, it did take quite a long time to dry. So, maybe a clear coat would be a good idea.

Awesome job all around! I have been looking for USB hubs like yours but the screen shot didnt show a model number on it and most i have found don't meet my needs. Where did you get it? Price? Brand?

I wanted one that I can mount inside like yours that can be (1) screwed down (secured), (2) 3-4 usb ports, (3) power cable and USB out (to computer) can be removed so it is clean looking.

    Thanks for your help!

I got my hubs (4 port in the cab and 7 port in the control panel) at usbgear.com.

The part number for the 4 port hub is USBG-4SU2MLA

The part number for the 7 port hub is USBG-7U2ML

You can also use their menu system on the left and click on "USB Hub" to see everything they have.

Blum 95° Thick Door Clip Top Hinges, available at Rockler

  • looks awesome. I took some inspiration for how I'd like to build mine in the future

  • It looks way way way better than my control panel!

  • I have the exact type of hinges on all my cabinets in the kitchen, lol. Nice work man.

  • Very nice! Love the cabinet hinges. It's cool that you can detach them easily.
