On April of 1991, 3 catalan journalists, Pilar Antillach, Ferran Prat and Santiago Torres, who worked for catalan famous TV Program, "30 Minuts" (30 Minutes), went to the mountains between Iraq and Turkey to inform to the world what was happening with one of the biggest exodus of XX Century. They went through Syria, without any visa at the beginning. Zueair Yanan, a Syrian government employee, helped them with the visa. Then, the journalists crossed the Syrian-Turkey border with the help of a group of Peshmergas. When They were in Turkish land, near Isikveren Camp, They met the BBC reporters, composed by a lot of reporters with a large baggage and TV equipement. Turkish soldiers didn't let them to continue to the Refugee camps, but the catalan group crossed the checkpoint. Then, They went to a Hotel in Cizre, to find a taxi driver. They found it, and went direct to the lands where refugees were crowding together. When They arrived there, the picture was absolutely deplorable. Turkish soldiers were using stick to beat the refugees and push them to the mountains, as if They were dogs. A woman was showing his sick baby saying: "I have no milk. She is hungry. She will die...". You have to know that some days later, a Spanish Tv Program (Informe Semanal) broadcasted a report about the same refugees. The same mother was interviewed. She carried his baby in her arms. The baby was dead.
The rest is in the 25 minutes long Docummentary. This is a summary of the best scenes, released on the 25 Anniversary of the foundation of the program, "30 Minutes".

  • Why they come to Turkey???

Why the Kurds didn't refuges to Oran or Syria??

And where was the terrororganisation PKK, why they don't help this kurdish refgues??

  • Of course They escaped to Iran and Syria. They tried to escape to everywhere. Obviously, kurds near the turkish border wouldn't go to Iran and viceversa. The exodus to Iran was estimated to be around 1 milion kurds (the exodus to Turkey was about 500 thousand kurds).

  • So many thanks for telling your experience. The exodus through Turkey's border has been so documented, but through iranian border... there are so few images... (I think people who went with You where about 1 or 1,5 milion, more than refugees going to Turkey, about 500.000) We are so lucky for not to endure these situations nowadays, but sometimes it's recommended to remember those sad moments (although I hadn't experienced that exodus...).

  • The sad part is Turks say they helped Kurds during saddams anfal campaign. This is evidence that shows how they helped kill innocent Kurds whose villages were being gassed. This is the truth about turks and how they "really" helped Kurdish people.

  • And now turkish goverment and fascist turks make use of the days feeling to vanish their own brutalities.

  • @cCcbalkanTURKcCc

Fucking Disgusting Turkish army! Attacking civilians when they were targetted by Chemical weapons by Saddam Hussein! IF there is a god, he will PUNISH every single one of you to hell you disgusting fascists! It is unbelievable that you dont even have one ounce of shame in your body!

  • FUCK KAMAL ATA BITCH TURK. DIE TURK, KILL THESE FUCKING DIRTY MINDED TURKS, BASTARDS.

  • @cCcbalkanTURKcCc They went to Iran and Syria too. Many of them came to Turkey because it was nearer. PKK are in Turkey not in Iraq.

  • My amazing parents got through this. They escaped, went to turkey where I was born. My dad fought from a young age for the cause and still does. I now live in London and want to carry on his work. This broke my heart.

  • shut up u dumb fuckkk ur one off themm 2 dirtyy ass turkkk y diidnt they let the camra men go c that lil girl dead huh cuz it was trueee

  • cold bloooded turkks if u guys had heart u would if atleast help the children and the women and they say turks help uss

  • I think Catalan and Basque people understand us much more than any muslim people in the world. Gora Euskal Herria askatuta, Visca Catalunya lliure!

  • "Iraq's democratic petroleum crusade" they are denying the right for Kurds to refuge in EU now? Because they are finished with them. The time will show what will happen in the future. I am hoping that we can resolve the bloodshed between 2 brother nations in Turkey. It was all a setup of foreign affairs, we Turks realised that and trying to get rid of these scums who pretend that they are Turkish but is a puppet of these foreign powers. Hope to cleanse them all...

  • I know it is not an easy topic but believe we understand Kurds far more better than this once upon Christian Crucifying union that were killing muslims and Jews in Spanish empire they had in history, now they happen to care about a muslim community and try to help them??? It is just to much of a miracle for me. As i say i need statistics, what is the number of Kurdish refugees living in Spain? If the EU care for Kurds that much now, why the very people they accepted from 19's till

  • Turkey is in delicate situation where these EU countries and Americans, in one hand accept PKK as terror organisation, betraying the very same people, Kurds that they so pseudo-care. On the other side, make documentaries like these to downgrade the image of Turkey in peoples eyes, i am not saying we are the best country in the world but we are not heartless people, so can anyone say what happened to these people? They resided in Turkey, and many tried to escape to their friends Europe.
