@frezzalata .... thats the filtertray. Its where you put the washing powder at the start of the wash. It also collects the lint and other bits that come off the clothes during the wash.
All hotpoint toploaders and twintubs used this arrangement.
cheers for commenting

what's that white disk on top? some of them don't have it

From what i remember it does what you say. Been a while since it was last brought out to play, as moving toploaders ia a pain in the proverbial. When the spring and summer comes - we will have a go again.

Yup. As per my previous comment this is exactly what Fisher & Paykel used until 1985. Once the agitation starts I bet the tub indexes for a few seconds until it gets locked in place with a click.

@nationalhomecare ....glad it stirs the memories. I have just received back my purple Hotpoint 1509/05 Liberator toploader, having had in mechanically restored. Spent the last couple of days cleaning it up. Looks great!

@matchbox3236h Shame I didn't discover you guys a few years ago, I got rid of my workshop unit & I threw out a load of new toploader power units/gearboxes and gearboxes for twintubs, spin shafts both metric and imperial for twintubs, Hotpoint Countess wringer rollers, worse still there was a sloping keymatic, an early Hotpoint Microtronic plus countless 18370's etc, I couldn't give it away as no one wanted it so it all went for scrap, such a waste. These old machines were great!

@nationalhomecare .... argghhhhhh! Gutted. Could very easily have found homes for all those machines - indeed, I am looking for an 18-series Microtronic myself. Its a painful hobby, getting to hear what so many people had until only a few years ago - fingers crossed some more examples will surface. Will hopefully add some more new vids soon - picked up another vintage machine today, though its not UK built - its a love it or hate it machine from 1984.
