This is an ECS 748-A motherboard I got from work along with a bunch of other computer related items. Of many items I bought home, this was one of the few things I was able to get to work. I've always been wanting to build a system that would be housed inside a box that motherboards are usually sold in.

Anyway, I put this together with a Socket A (423) AMD Duron processor running at 1400mhz, 512 mb of DDR-400 ram that I saved from my old computer, and an old NVidia graphics card of which I don't know what model. A LG 52X CD rom and a random floppy drive completed the rig. Input devices are a SunbeamTech brand EL back lit multimedia keyboard with the corners chipped off and a Microsoft Wireless mouse which tended to have an appetite for a set of batteries. Power came from a 250 watt ATX power supply.

Since there is no hard drive, I'm running Ubuntu 8.10 off a live CD with this rig. Being a Windows user primarily, I'm new to using Linux distributions but I'm quickly figuring it out. Everything seems to work fine so far.

  • probably could load win 2000 on it...I have upgraded old computers from 98 to win 2000. you have to add some more RAM but it will probably work.

  • @whiskeyify

I've ended up getting a hard drive with XP on it and a gig of ram and built the computer that I currently use at work. One of the computers we have still has 2000 on it.

  • Dam your going to get fired for jacking motherboards, oh and ecs sucks.

  • It's an old board and I asked my boss and he just told me to take it along with a bunch of other old things we wanted to get rid of.

  • "I obtained these from Work" AKA Stole!

  • Actually, my boss offered me a bunch of the old stuff that he had laying in the back of the warehouse as they were pretty much obsolete and a lot of them were either returns or defective items.

This was just one of the few things that I was able to get to function. Most of the other motherboards I got won't Power On Self Test at all.
