  • The Thrill May Be Gone for some listeners when they hear Vallée's late work, but this, from his best period, undoubtedly is grand.

  • I was surprised at how much the listeners liked this recording. This is a good recording and this is certainly different a lot of his output.

  • HiPax41

Just had to write and say I love this more each time I hear it. Thank you again.

  • You are very welcome Genia.

  • @merrihew - Hey, this is 2011 and I think Rudy Vallee is a fine singer. What appeals to me is the sentimental, romantic, gentle quality of the love songs, plus some of the upbeat ones too. It was a different era so I simply appreciate it for what it was even though it was before my time. One need not look down on earlier songs or singers because they had something we don't have these days. Just my thoughts on the subject.

  • pax another great record in the minor key. better than crosby. the record has a beginning not heard on the crosby record. ROGHARM better than crosby version

  • My reply to this comment disappeared too. See my comments in response to Genia's. One difference between Vallee and the others you mentioned is that the others held up quite well and made adjustments to current taste. Vallee's voice did not hold up well at all. It will be interesting to see what still gets the public's attention in another generation.

  • I posted a response which seems to have disappeared and I didn't want to leave an impression that I don't like Vallee. I think he's great. He was a real charmer although he could be difficult. His problem was that his persona was still that of 1930 which, of course, would be appealing to society of the 1960's who remembered him from their youth.

  • Yes, I have read that. He could be very charming and a lot of fun but difficult also at times (who isn't). I wasn't trying to belittle him (I love him). Its just that his whole persona was stuck around 1930 and he became somewhat a caricature of himself.

  • Hi Merrihew,

My friend's grandfather, Jack Weinstock, was a librettist for "How to Succeed In Business Without Really Trying" in the 60's and he told us that Rudy (who starred in it) was the toast of New York City. The socialites couldn't get enought of him...he was so UNBELIEVABLY CHARMING!
