As Tesla's Model S inches closer and closer to production, more and more details about the car are being released. To accompany the extra info is a new gallery of images which show the car in a more production ready state of development. The car is also going by a new name; the Tesla Model S Alpha.

From the initial Tesla Model S prototype to the current car there aren't any major changes to report on. However there are a number of subtle styling differences. The most recent photos show a sportier front bumper with extra air intakes below the headlights, slightly larger side mirrors (a must if the car was to enter production), smaller side vents just aft of the front wheels, and at the rear there are new taillights and a couple of extra lights integrated into the diffuser.

Despite the sleek saloon car looks -- which share more than a passing resemblance to the latest Jaguar models -- the Tesla Model S Alpha has seating for seven (5 adults and 2 children). Although at full capacity its hard to imagine there's much room left over for important things, like limbs.

The Tesla Model S Alpha will be available with a choice of three different battery packs. Giving the car either a 160, 230 or 300 mile range. The Model S Alpha can be recharged from any standard wall socket in the world, and with the fast charger it can be fully recharged in just 45 minutes.

Like Tesla's Roadster, the Model S Alpha states a good case for electric car performance. The 0-60 sprint is dealt with in a scant 5.6 seconds, and while the top speed of 120 mph is considerably lower than many internally combustion engined saloons, who really drives that fast on a daily basis anyway? Rapid acceleration up highway speeds is a far more useful characteristic.

The Tesla Model S Alpha's onboard entertainment system includes a 17-inch touchscreen with in-car 3G connectivity for streaming radio, gps navigation, and internet access.

It remains to be seen whether Tesla's next iteration of the Model S is another pre-production prototype, or whether the Model S Alpha we see here is the first example of the final design.

@grendelkeep yea i know the feeling, but in my city (Wels Austria) the Electricity Suplier built loading stations around the city. 16ampere but they let you charge over night, and for free. still looking for that hook. .)

Advertise, advertise, everyone needs to know what a telsa model s is. I hope that the stars in the movies will drive your cars in and our of the movies because thats what they did with the prius and look how many of those ugly things they sold. Telsa you might what to try putting your cars in a bond moive or something cool. Good luck! P.S. I plan to invest.
