thorne is one of if not the best, but his most memorable gaffe to me will always be the friesen winner in game seven against ottawa. interestingly enough, both he and bob cole of the cbc blew the call on that play, with cole crediting the primary assist to scott gomez (it was grant marshall), and thorne waving off the goal on his own while bill clement was telling him, "yes, yes!"

and? this shit happens all the time..

the goal judge usually blows the call first,
which is probably why they don't exist anymore. Kinda sad though, I remember taking my younger brother to games and he would wonder why there'd be a guy in his own glass box. Then he wanted that job. Well, he's 17 now and that job is non existent. LOL. So is Gary Thorne's hockey announcing career, which is a damn friggin' shame.

Calling a goal aint easy. Sometimes the crowd reacts like they scored and sometimes even the goal horn might blow once but sometimes goalies beg to differ.

This is why Doc Emrick is the best in the business. He knows the situation and exactly what to say in the right moment. While ABC/ESPN had solid hockey coverage, Gary Thorne and Bill Clement were vasty overrated. Nothing compares to Doc with Chico or Edzo or JD back on Fox.

he is still the best. we need espn back covering hockey

Still my favorite hockey sportscaster hands down.
-
Thats why he switched to baseball... never a blown call.
-
In Thorne's defense, the fans thought it was in, too.

I don't see the big deal, it looked like everyone in the building thought it went in at first.
Ever call a hockey game there McKay? It is THE hardest game to call.

Relax Captain, never said it wasn't, and I wouldn't disagree with what you said. Just poking a little fun, not the end of the world
