Did not chart, but released as a single in May 1971. Even though Bobby Goldsboro and Bobby Vinton released competing singles of this song, and would seem to be naturals to sing it, both versions were not successful. In fact, Bobby's single did not even chart on the Easy Listening (Adult Contemporary) chart although his singles usually did. It took Perry Como to make the song into a hit a few years following this, along with a modified arrangement.
Original Billboard review: "Vinton comes up with a smooth version of the current Bobby Goldsboro release, a winning folk ballad penned by Don McLean. Fine vocal work and production by Billy Sherrill".
B-side is "She Loves Me", the same b-side used for Bobby's previous single, "I'll Make You My Baby".
@stewdoran2 Exact. His voice is romantic and warm and less sharp. IMHO Vinton's performance is the best around.
