Sandy River Belle

I've loved playing this tune for as long as I've been playing banjo. About a year ago I was learning to play 'Rambling Hobo,' which has its own unusual tuning - something like gDGDE - and I started looking for other tunes to play there as well. I love the slightly different flavor this tuning gives to an otherwise straight-ahead G tune. Recorded November 14, 2009.

May I ask which right hand finger you pluck with?

Until recently I only played with the middle finger, and I tended to play out over the scoop. Lately I've been playing around with the first finger, and playing a bit more over the head - I'm starting to like the projection and the sharper tone you get that way. I think on this tune I was probably mostly using the first finger, except on the first string, which I still always hit with the middle finger.

Nice playing. Like you say I first learned it in regular G and eventually moved it to gDGDE too. Great tune.
