http://www.northjersey.com | Antonia Verni, a 2-year-old Cliffside Park girl, was left a quadriplegic in a 1999 accident caused by a drunken football fan. Video was shot in November 2007.
I work as a seat vendor at the ball parks and arenas in Chicago. Every year at Cubs,Sox,Bulls and Hawks orientation we are shown the Date Line video that profiled this tragic case. I have a great deal of trouble sitting through it. It is gut wrenching. This I swear, I would give a huge part of my years remaining to see that beautiful little girl made whole again.
This mother and this little angel are an example to those who are always complaining about trivial issues. I send you both all my love and strength. Besides you have my admiration. Thanks to the good friend who sent this video to me. Sometimes we need to see the other side of life, to understand what's important.
Apparently....the Drunk Driver.... Paid off the ARAMARK Beer guys at the Stadium $15.00 cash if he would keep serving him BEYOND...the 3 drink limit.... And look who paid the ultimate price... this sweet innocent little girl! The mother is SO loving and God bless her strength!
In honesty, I am sorry for her tragic accident..and as a cashier/ stand lead..for a babseball league,..I AM VERY STRICK ON MY CASHIERS TO BE ON, TARGET..WATCH 4 ANY ONE ,..RED EYES, SMELLS OF LIQUOR,..STAGGERIN WALKIN,.. I TOOK AN OATH,..AND I TAKE IT SERIOUSLY..AND I WILL KEEP COMPLYING ...THIS EVERY YEAR WITH EVERY EMPLOYEE,..
I THINK GIANTS STADIUM SHOULD BE AT FALUT AS WELL FOR MAKING A CONTRACT WITH ARAMARK..
Hello. Antonia has a high level CERVICAL INJURY and is completly paralized. The movement that you see are involuntary spasms... she i s not able to voluntarily move ANYTHING. Her mother Fazilia is one of the most loving and devoted mother you could ever meet!
Hi tigertim. I don't know Antonia's precise situation, but quadriplegia, particularly when related to CP or Spinal Cord injury doesn't necessarily mean no movement - it simply means no effective motor control of all four limbs. Antonia did sustain a cervical SCI, for which quadriplegia is a common result. I have a high-level SCI& quadriplegia, but my limbs (particularly arms) often move (e,g due to muscle spasm). Hope that helps?
Does anybody know the extent of Antonia's injuries? When I first read about her I assumed she had suffered a SCI but I notice on this video clip that she has some movement.

It's too horrible to try to write anything sensible or comforting.
There are no words for such grief. I am left speechless.
My heart goes out to you.
