@Gearsturfs It's not necessarily about how it fucked his life up, its about how he has committed so much to it.(highest commitment). the highs and lows...ups and downs. Its also a metaphor for a real relationship with a women. ("i love your red hair") ("we used to do it in public") etc.. you get it.
