Lets not forget that there was one soprano who actually enjoyed singing this "violent" aria

  • She sings the living hell out of this.. in a way that we have never heard again.. For one thing, she is Violetta... its about perfect.

  • I've always thought this was her best performance of sempre libera (and all of Traviata) caught on record. Great pick, Lohengrin!

  • @Ariadne7710

that is what people usually call immense musicianship her ability to know how one piece should sound Usually though idiotic brains fail to acknowledge that no matter how well someone understands how to sing if the voice isnt perfect cannot achieve that sound... Imo Callas had the closest to perfection voice in t he history of singing

And to think all they can talk about her is her Flaws

  • Maria the unique, she gave all her life to the opera that's why she is perfect for ever !!!!!

  • I've wandered into the sophisticated part of Youtube again...

  • The eternal diva!!! The eternal best of all!!! No one is never going to beat this woman!!!! or may i say, this Godess

  • The Diva could sing anything. Amazing, exquisite musicianship, best Sempre of all time...boom!

  • @LohengrinT You are quite right. Talking about staging "La Vestale" Visconti said that it is a very difficult opera to stage because it require a certain style and only Callas could bring it to life in the way he felt was right and give it the right style and character. She had a unique voice but above all else she had instinctive musicianship. Like Jaqueline du Pre who produced a miraculous sound the moment her bow touched her cello, Callas knew by instinct exactly how a piece should sound

  • @kgarmaker123 Yes, and she sings with such immense freedom and abandon and full frontal attack. No-one else has ever come anywhere close to this level and I am pretty sure no-one ever will:-)) I thank my lucky stars that I was fortunate enough to see her Covent Garden 1958 Traviata! Unforgettable!!!

  • @kgarmaker123 'Spoiled and undiscerning' is probably how I should describe my hearing: that's why I should hang out here and get an education.

What bothers me is that the sound seems to come from far away...

But I agree with what you said elsewhere - this is perfect - every note seems to have its own individual character and meaning.... no one else can do that.
