Fellows. no need to argue a vw deserves a vw engine. Water cooled engines are cheaper than aircooled and in my opinion performe better than a aircooled. I swaped a stock 1600 single port engine that wouldn't go over 70 mph with a 1.8 fi from a golf gt and my bug goes faaaassst. My expese$450.00 Kennedy adaptor.$250.00 86 golf GT and about $300.00 in many junk yard trips and parts. I just love VW air or water cooled.....

I recently bought a '74 beetle on a '69 pan with a 2.0 Jetta engine bolted to a VW trans-axle. It's pretty quick and very smooth running. It's very reliable and gets 28 to 30 MPG. It has enough power to run A/C which I installed. The heat will come from a small heater core in a box with a fan like street rods use. I'll have that set up before winter comes.

You don't need an h2o engine to beat that crappy transmarro. A nicley done air-cooled 2 liter will do the trick. However, it's always nice to see a transmarro get its arse waxed!
