Russians Roll on Toward Tbilisi

A Sky News stringer reports on the CBS Early Show that Russian tanks are rolling into the Georgian city of Gori. Further reports have the Russians heading east from Gori to Georgia's capital city, Tbilisi, fifty miles away.

In a separate report, a journalist in Gori tells us that he was robbed by South Ossetian irregulars who stole all his equipment and his car, forcing him to walk back to Gori. Numerous other reports have detailed the South Ossetian guerillas robbing and looting in the Gori area.

The city of Gori has continued to suffer from artillery attacks. A recent strike on the city center killed several people, including Stan Storimans, a cameraman for the Dutch TV network RTL.

Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili in this interview with CBS describes ethnic cleansing carried out by the Russian military in South Ossetian villages with Georgian populations. Similarly, Saakashvili describes the removal of Georgian populations from Abkhazia. He also confirms reports of looting by regular Russian soldiers in Gori.
