A Tribute to the Sperm Whale

This is a tribute to one of the oddest whales on the earth, the Sperm Whale. Physeter macrocephalus. This 70 foot long whale eats Giant Squid and, even though it has an innapropriate name, is awesome as it is the second largest predator to exist.

it isn't an "inappropriate" name. it's called the sperm whale because of the spermaceti in its head which allows it to dive so deep and withstand such great pressures

amazing creatures! i swear if i ever see someone talking about whaling as agood thing or actually whaling... i will decapatate them with a miniature pen. or at least make them suffer...

True. However, the oil in the whales head oxidizes rapidly upon exposure to air. The appearance of the oxidized oil is where the name is derived from.

@lordbolton actually why its called sperm whales because the microscopic unit ( sperm ) head is 1/3 of its body and thats just how sperm whales look like.

@saulhudson420 actually they use the bluber now of course its illegal so selling whale products is in the black market but also make products like lipstick were made with the oil from whale blubber

@saulhudson420 That particular whale was stranded someplace in Taiwan, and while transported into Taipei for research, exploded.

That's a different species, the rare High-Finned Sperm Whale. I know that normal sperm whales lack dorsal fins like that.
