The King of the North (Daniel 11:40-45) - sung by Jack Marti

A few years ago I put together about 25 or 30 scripture songs as part of my morning devotions. I just took a number of my favorite, or what I thought were important texts and decided to see what I could do with them musically. Some of them turned out pretty good. Some weren't so great. This, in my opinion, was one of the gems. I had only ever heard one other scripture song from Daniel and it was not a prophetic scripture. I thought it was about time someone put some of the prophetic texts to music. I'd love to know what you think of this song.

And at the time of the end
Shall the king of the south push at him:
And the king of the north shall come against him like a whirlwind,
With chariots and with horsemen,
And with many ships;
And he shall enter into the countries,
And shall overflow and pass over.
He shall enter also into the glorious land,
And many countries shall be overthrown:
But these shall escape out of his hand,
Even Edom, and Moab, and the chief of the children of Ammon.
He shall stretch forth his hand
Also upon the countries:
And the land of land of Egypt shall not escape.

But he shall have power
Over the treasures of gold
And of silver, and over all the precious things of Egypt:
And the Lybians and the Ethiopians shall be at his steps.
But tidings out of the east and out of the north shall trouble him:
Therefore he shall go forth with great fury
To destroy, and utterly to make away many.
And he shall plant his tabernacles
Of his palace between the seas
In the glorious holy mountain;
Yet he shall come to his end,
And none shall help him.

This IS a gem! The drama and minor key really fits with the theme of these scriptures...we need more like this in these last days--who knows? Maybe they will be needed to guide us...sometimes you understand something in music better than in words.

@Artmousi You know, it's interesting you should say that. I have actually composed music for certain passages of scripture for which I thought I had a certain understanding, only to realize years later that I had not nearly begun to unpack it's meaning. God IS good, isn't He?

The glorious land is not the present land of Israel and Palestine, but that land that offered its shores to those who sought freedom to worship God according to ones conscience, the United States of America.
