This video does not do the finish justice. Go to http://www.drayfx.blogspot.com/ to see pictures of the finish and text reflection of the finish.

Self confessed OCD. My wife calls it Obcessive Complusive Behaviour. I call it Obcessive Car Detaling behaviour. Why do I do it. Well its partly thereputic. Others in my shoes would understand. Haha.... But nothing beats a car's paint job when you can see your facial pores in it and when parked people actually stop to look at the car.

The car is a 1997 Honda Civic used to ferry the kids everywhere, daily driven. Had it for 10 years (bought it used) with factory paint until it has a small accident. Got the whole car repainted. Total cost of repainting and fixing up the rear of the car was RM1800 or ~USD500. With that sort of money you can't expect to get much. The car had quite bad orange peelafter being repainted.
Steps taken to get the mirror finish:

1. Wet sanded whole car with 2000 grit sand paper by hand. Except for the bumpers, wing mirrors and door handles. I rather not touch plastic painted parts.

2. Compounding or removal of sanding marks were done using a wool pad with rotary buffer and Osren Crystal Cut 3.0.

3. Polishing and light swirl removal was done using rotary buffer, finishing black foam pad and Osren Crystal Cut 3.0. By this time you would get the mirror finish and would be able to see the fonts on printed bottles or the pores on your face.

4. Applied 10ml Pompanazzi 880-X Quartz based paint sealant and let cure for 10days. I tried putting other LSP after step 3 but didn't really see any difference in the reflection. So I decided to then put the 880-X. It was only then that I was able to see and feel a difference in the paint. Seeing the difference, well the reflections were sharper colours were stronger and more like a reflection off glass. Feeling the difference, well normally the paint would have a plastic, acrylic sort of feeling to it when you glide fingers over the paint (well its 2k paint). But after the 880-x it felt harder and much more like glass. I love that feeling.

5. Added another 10mls Pompanazzi 880-X and let cure.

6. Final step was to put my own formulation of Quick Detailer. Why? Because it makes the surface more slick and I have another sacrifical barrier on top of the Quartz. 880-x alone is smooth but not really slick. It feels like a clean sheet of glass. So I put my QD for the slick feeling and a wetter look.

7. For maintenance after every wash I just apply my QD to maintain the mirror finish and to renew the hydrophobic effect. Here in Asia it rains a hell of alot especially during monsoon season and we get flash floods as well so other cars spraying loads of water mixed with sand and what ever is on the road. So what ever you put on top of the car gets worn away pretty fast. If you noticed it just rained when I shot the video.

WORD OF CAUTION:

Wet sanding should be only done by professionals or people who has previous experince. Please do not attemp to wet sand your car if you have no experience as you CAN damage your paint if you are not careful and/or not trained. If you do want to try. Do it on a panel that you can get from a junk yard and not your car.

Rotary buffer do not use this tool to polish your car if you have no experience as you can also damage your car's paint with it. Also recommended to practice on a panel from a junk yard before attempting on your car. You would need this tool to remove all the sanding marks left behind. Do not try to wet sand and then use an orbital buffer to compound as it will take a hell of a long time and it will almost never work. To remove sanding marks you will need a rotary buffer and at least an aggressive foam pad but a wool pad with the right compounding product will work more efficiently and effectively.

Note:

The products displayed on the car for this video is only used for showing the reflective qualities of the paint. It is not intended to be a promotion of the product nor an endorsement of the product.
