McNamara admits that if the Allies had lost the war he and many others would rightfully have faced trial for war crimes. The fire bombing of Japan and Germany would be the most obviously criminal and morally culpable action. That's not even mentioning Hiroshima and Nagasaki, events that will live for all time as symbols of the evil men can do.
Remember, the victors write the histories of war. In reality there was no such thing as "good" America and "bad" Japan.

@ParagramTree 1/2
I often have mixed feelings about commenting on the internet at all, because there are nine retards for every sane person it seems. Ofc you can have the view without sympathizing with their ideology.
That being said, I think there is a diffrence between Japan and Germany. Germany had already lade waste to the greater part of Europe, Britain was litterary fighting for its existence, barly keeping the Germans off their shores. In such times I think anything goes.

I was absolutely blown away by this documentary. People say that he's just being a hypocrite by trying to justify his actions, but I believed him. What does he have to gain from trying yo save his reputation at this point of age. I really think he want's to prevent the future generation of making the same mistake.

Macnamara suffers in his old age the remorse of his mistakes on Vietnam, but he was at that time very arrogant, ignorant of the Vietnamese fight against invasion, very much American in his way of thinking as modelled by American Bussiness Schools. Macnamara is culprit, as much as Lyndon Johnson, of all the horror of Vietnam.

McNamara's intelligence is astounding even in his late age. I have learned so much from this documentary and I believe that the Library of congress should selected it for preservationt, plus it should be taught in all History classes. One of the many things were:
1. leaving an $800,000 CEO job for a $25,000 gov't job in the 60s [would you?]
2. US didn't understand how the Vietnamese viewed it [as oppressors]
3. The destruction Japan endured...omg...no comment
Our leaders should be wary of war.

The thing I hate is that anyone who condemns the mass bombing of German and Japanese cities in World War II is shouted down as a neo nazi revisionist. It has happened to me on several occasions on forums. Just because you condemn certain things as war crimes like the mass fire bombing of Dresden and other German and Japanese cities does not mean that you support those countries regimes!
Comparing Hitler to McNamara... that is the dumbest fucking thing I have ever heard
