Is this the nightmare scenario of nuclear meltdown becoming real? And what can be done to contain the nuclear threat while at the same time dealing with the widespread destruction caused by Japan's largest recorded earthquake?

  • Nuclear power plant location next to the ocean in a high earthquake and tsunami prone area, yet the designers/planners decided to not place the diesel engines high off the ground? This is not a failure of nuclear power but rather of basic design practices and precautions. A plant like this needs to have multiple redundant generators placed at least 60 ft off the ground, copious diesel reserves, reactor pump redundancy and pumps that are fully protected from the elements (flooding etc.).

  • @crocfme or at least, if you're going to build a nuclear power plant, don't build it in the Ring of Fire and don't put it in San Francisco.

  • You only have to go 3:57 into the video to see Al Jazeera's usual "stunning" display of scientific know-how. Pro tip: Fusion=/=Fission.

  • excellent

  • @korvelo

they already tried that theory back in 86 and well the heat from the fuel cooked the robots so humans have to do the job

  • they cocked up from the start (joke) kaboooom no more problem with the plant then ??

    ha what a joke

they are contunuing there nuclear programme

    fecking idiots

learn from (coperate) with china use your common sense no more nuclear on the east side please stick to building global warming engines hohoho

  • It's simple... All they have to do, is pick up japan and put it in a safer and less earthquake prone area ... ! Then they should try to stay away from Water and Nuclear Plants ... ... ...

  • @UsirAccessDenied The risks WERE weighed and they're getting exactly the results they were hoping for.
